The Greeks that inhabited the area in the Middle Ages named the village Foros.
The evidence shows that Foros was a part of ancient settlements on the southern coast of the peninsula built by the Greeks in the 5th century BC.
The leaders of the Soviet Union had a number of state-of-the-art "dachas" in this village. Back in '91, when the famous coup attempt in the USSR took place, Mikhail Gorbachev was held hostage in his own summer house in Foros.
Right on the cliff, you can see a fascinating Foros church. The cliff is 400 meters high and offers a breathtaking view of the resort and the Black Sea coast.
